Loan Insurance

Loanminder is an affordable way to make sure you and your family won't have to worry about loan repayments if the unexpected happens.

Loanminder lets you choose the type of cover you want:

  • Life - your loan balance will be repaid in full (up to $100,000) if you should die
  • Trauma - a lump sum to $10,000 is payable if you suffer a heart attack, coronary artery surgery, stroke, cancer (as defined in the policy) and survive 14 days after the trauma.
  • Disability - if you are unable to work for more than 7 consecutive days your loan instalments will be paid (up to $1500 per month, to a maximum of $100,000)
  • Bankruptcy – a lump sum equal to 6 months worth of loan instalments (up to $1000 per month) will be paid to your loan to help reduce your outstanding debt.

Regular weekly/monthly bills can be simply paid by Automatic Payments from your Budget Saver.

Funeral Plan

The death of a loved one is a very emotional time, often made more stressful by the costs of a funeral and bills to pay.

Funeral Plan will provide you with the comfort of knowing that you and your family are protected from the added worry of some immediate financial problems.

Funeral Plan offers cover for $5,000, $7,500 or $10,000 to provide for the unexpected cost of a funeral. The cost of an average funeral is hard to estimate as there are variable costs for many of the items normally involved. The best current guide we can give you is that the average cost for a conventional funeral is around $7,000, but there are prices advertised ranging from $3,000 for a very simple funeral to $15,000 and more.

Note – In the event of a death you may also be entitled to receive a Funeral Grant from WINZ, and in the event of an accidental death you my be eligible for funeral expenses to be met by ACC.

Guaranteed acceptance - no questions asked

  • Cover is guaranteed for anyone aged between 10 and 75.
  • No medical information is required.
  • Up to 10 additional family members or friends can be insured.
  • You can nominate the beneficiary of your choice; otherwise any claim payment would go into the estate.

What's not covered?

  • The cover ends when the insured person reaches 86 years old.
  • There is no cover for children aged less than 10.
  • There is no cover for death by natural causes or suicide in the first 12 months (premium is fully refunded).

Premiums from your Credit Union account

  • Premiums are paid monthly, deducted from a single Credit Union account.
  • The premium is age-based and it increases as each new age band is reached.

Funeral Plan - Frequently Asked Questions

What if my nominated beneficiary dies before me?
You can change your beneficiary at any time (for any reason).

Who can be a beneficiary?
Anyone, if the insured person is 16 or older. If the insured is aged less than 16 then the beneficiary must be the parents or legal guardian.

Can I borrow against my policy?
No, your policy has no cash or investment value.

Can I cancel my policy?
Yes, at any time. Please contact us.

Does this policy affect my entitlements to any benefits or subsidies?
No. The premiums payable are exempt from asset testing and the claim payment free. If the death is accidental ACC entitlements will not be affected.
